Hi there, could you open the developer tools using Ctrl+Shift+I or in the View Menu > Toggle developer tools and share the console output when you try to flash?

Also, can you share more info on how/where did you install Etcher? The message makes me think it is installed in a temporary directory?

Thank you
Felipe

Hi Felipe,

Please find the console output as below:

I have downloaded from website “https://www.balena.io/etcher/”. The .exe file is executed from the download section and sits in “C:\Users\Guest\AppData\Local\balena-etcher-updater”. Please let me know if you need any further information.

My intend is to get the linuxmint.iso into flashdrive and boot my machine in Linux from USB.

Regards, Chandra

Hi @Chan1,
it seems to be a permissions problem as you can see from the Access is denied that appears in the error. Etcher to write requires administrator permissions in order to perform the operation. Since you are running the program from the Guest folder, it makes me think that it runs without these permissions. If you haven’t already tried it, could you please try to open Etcher by right-clicking on the icon and clicking on run as administrator ?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I did tried to run both “as administrater” and also in administrater account. The error message in both cases are same and as attached. Please advice.

This is again a permissions issue. You’ll need to login to your regular account (not the guest account), download Etcher again, and retry.

Hi, sorry for the confusion but we didn’t notice that you tried with an admin account too
To further debug, can you try with the latest v1.5.104 version? I think the error code seen in the last log you pasted could be related to memory consumption, but we’re not sure.
Could you also tell us the hardware specs of your PC? Mainly the amount of RAM, but having the full specs could help finding a possible common cause, since this isn’t the first time we see this error code.

Hi, I tried the v1.5.104 version as administrator and tried to flash Still I cannot able to flash to USB. Log attached.-1598287344323.log (6.4 KB)

The configuration is as attached.

For what it’s worth I have almost the identical problem. When I try to write a USB memory stick it gives me an error with just the first paragraph that you have, not the second PP.
And I’m guessing it’s something in my computer because it now does the same thing with Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.9.3. The USB is almost new and I installed a Linux ISO on it last month. The computer is a bit different. It’s a 6th gen I5 with 16GB RAM and Win10.
But the fact that 2 USB writing programs fail this month with an error leads me to think MS Update or…??? I’ll watch this post to see if you find any good news. Glad you guys are here.

Hello @Chan1
I can see this error code in your logs: 1073741819.
I’ve googled for it and found this: https://appuals.com/file-system-error-1073741819-on-windows-10/
Can you please try the solution suggested there ?

@Tombar, can you please provide the logs you get ?

I found my problem although I’m not sure it will relate to Chan1 with Win7.
I had this setting applied: Setting: Windows Security: Virus and Threat Protection: Ransomware Protection. Today I set it to OFF and was able to flash a USB memory stick without problem. When I was finished I changed the setting to ON.

I hope this is a help to Chan1.
Regards

Tried as @Tombar suggested (switching off all the Windows Security, Antivirus software) but not able to flash to USB memory stick. error-1598424166409(2).log (6.4 KB) log as attached.

@chan1 could you try opening a cmd shell as administrator and run sfc /scannow ? It’s a command to scan for corrupted data.
After that, I’d suggest also temporarily disabling Windows DEP (Data Execution Prevention) that could prevent some applications to access the memory. Here’s a guide on how to do so: https://kb.omni-ts.com/entry/55/
