Previously working Wifi device not coming up on Rpi1B

Lo forums,

I have an old Rpi1 that runs a tiny python script running a temperature-controlled fridge. This has been running smoothly for many months.

I recently “borrowed” the Edimax USB wifi dongle for a few days, and since it’s been put back, the Balena device does not connect to wifi.

I flashed a new image on the SD card and tried to start over. Now I see the wifi device as inactive, when I connect with an ethernet cable:

# nmcli c

resin-wifi-01 a58e405d-fdc2-3649-9339-5bbaea740c76 wifi --

# nmcli d
DEVICE TYPE STATE CONNECTION

lo loopback unmanaged --
resin-vpn tun unmanaged --

The driver for this should be present, as previously (a week ago) this was working fine.

Could someone kindly point me in a direction that might resolve this please?

Cheers!

That’s certainly quite strange!

Do you remember if you removed the device while it was powered on?
There have been instances, for example here - where users have reported similar issues with hot unplugged Realtek devices
