Etcher 1.5 problems on Mac

I installed Etcher v1.5 on my iMac (v10.14.3), but when I launch the app, nothing appears. I can quit the program and pull up the developer tools window, but the typical Etcher window doesn’t appear. Any suggestions?

FYI, I had an older copy of Etcher that I had used multiple times that I uninstalled prior to installing v1.5.

I’ve tested it on 10.14.2, it worked.
Do you see a blank window or no window at all?
What do you see in the developer tools console?

There’s no window at all. I see the balenaEtcher name at the top left of the screen (to the right of the apple), and have access to some of the menu items.

As a note, the install I’m referencing above was on an iMac. I also installed it on my MacBook Pro and it worked correctly. However, I’ve uninstalled and installed it several times on my iMac and it does the same thing every time - no window, only the application
name in the top left

I have the exact same problem on my iMac. I’ve used Etcher 1.5.5 last week and it was fine, now no window.

I’m in the exact same boat. installing an older 1.4.4 version on macOS 10.14.3 in a 2015 5K iMac.

Same problem on MacOS. I am going to go back to using Etcher app for now. This has been posted for 3 or 4 weeks. Is anyone looking into this?

What do you see in the developer console? (press ctrl + shift + i then go to the console tab)?

Any resolution or suggestions on this issue? Same problem. I mistakenly updated my working version 1.4 to get to latest release and now it doesn’t work at all. Same problem of just seeing menu and no window for creating SD image. Running 10.14.4.

Is there a way to get an earlier release in the meantime?

Before installing an older release, could you please run balena-etcher-electron --enable-logging and paste the output here?

I’m in the same boat. Checking the terminal when running the app from there shows this error
AVDCreateGPUAccelerator: Error loading GPU renderer

A bit of digging and it looks like an issue between Electron and CPUs that don’t have integrated GPUs. I’m on a Mac Pro (Late 2013) with the Xeons. Anyone else here running Xeon CPUs?

Version 1.5.24 still having the same problem. There is nothing in console in the developer tools window.

In case it is any help, I’m using a 2019 iMac with a 3.6 GHz Intel Core i9 with a Radeon Pro Vega 48 8 GB.

I just tried 1.5.26 but the problem remains.

I’ve never see balena-etcher-electron get installed in my path. Made an assumption and got this.

So some more data points. I installed 1.5.24 on a different machine MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015) Running the same Mojave 10.14.4. balenaEtcher runs fine there.

Looks like I get much the same output as ryanquinlan with the main change being the different messages regarding the GPU.

@StevenPH , sorry I’ve confused the macOS and the Linux executable names, macOS’s one is /Applications/balenaEtcher.app/Contents/MacOS/balenaEtcher as @ryanquinlan said.

So I guess the error is AVDCreateGPUAccelerator: Error loading GPU renderer and / or GVA info: Successfully connected to the Intel plugin, offline Gen95.

Do you have the same issue with other electron apps?

Could you try running etcher with ./balenaEtcher --enable-logging --disable-gpu ?

I don’t use a lot of Electron apps but the ones I do have such as Skype run normally.
