Check if Software is Valid on a device

Could you please add a feature to just check if a device matches the software file. I want to be able to verify if a SD card has the correct software loaded and that it’s not corrupted. You do verify it when it is created, just make that verification an option to run anytime.

Thanks
Phil

Hello Phil, just to clarify, are you asking for a feature to be able to compare the contents of an SD card to an image file, similar to what Etcher does during the verification process? If not please provide an example so we can be sure to understand your feature request.

Hi,
Yes that is exactly what I would like. My system often corrupts it’s Micro SD Card and it would be great if there was a way to verify it still has the valid image in it. Also I have had the problem where the SD Card was not labeled, this is another case where validating the image would be helpful.
Thanks
Phil

Hi,

I’m curious, are you going to be able implement my suggestion?

Thanks
Phil

Hi Alan,

Do you know it my suggestion got approved and implemented?

Thanks
Phil

Hello @Phil

That’s interesting! So you want to have an option called validate image or similar, so Etcher can tell you if the image in the SD card is still valid?

Feel free to add your ideas in the Etcher repository etcher/docs/CONTRIBUTING.md at master · balena-io/etcher · GitHub

Thanks!

I initially suggested this back in March and thought it was being implemented. I looked at the link you sent and don’t see anything there about this or how to suggest it. Do I need to add it there somehow?

@Phil you can click on “Issues” at the top of the page and add a new issue, and tag it as “feature”.
