I’m using a Raspberry Pi 3 B+. I saw a project on balenaEtcher that showed me the balenaSound project, where I can use my RPi to connect wirelessly to old speakers. I followed all the instructions, but all I get is a buzz on the speakers. I’ve tried the Github project’s Issues page and was told to start a topic here. What do I do?
hi @EagleEye welcome to the community! I would start by describing your hardware setup and maybe provide a photo. It would be good to know specifically how you are connecting the speakers up to the pi3, i.e is it direct to the 3.5mm audio jack or using some kind of audio hat?
Hello there, let me post here also apart from the original thread I used balenaSound blueooth audio on Raspberry Pi 3: Sound skipping, dropping because maybe it can be useful.
After various builds and tips and tricks followed (not yet the external bluetooth thing, which I expect to test today) I have been experiencing:
- Crippling sounds
- Very very low volume, despite the volume is at 75% by default
- Packet loss, seen through the console
Using standard 3,5 jacks here, no conversors needed (also tried more than one of these cables)
The issue reproduces no matter the audio source, always same behavior.
Last build I made it ethernet only and even configured the variable to avoid the wifi module usage
The distance where I send content is very small, half a meter or less every time.

Thanks in advance.
hey @Alejandro
sorry to hear this. Are you trying to set up a multi-room devices? How many raspberry pis do you have configured?
Also, were you able to use the external dongle? Also according to the bluetooth startup code here the internal bluetooth should be disabled when using a dongle.
Thanks
Thanks Rahul,
I have 2 raspberries (both 3b model) and it is the same issue every time. Not multi-roomed, just this project which I pulled several times now.
I bought a universal BT dongle which works just fine for the most part, but procudes the exact same result regarding the sound volume and quality. I figured out what you say, but I have not been able to disable built-in BT.
Anyway, I am done with this for now, I will try Volumio and /or MusicBox and see.
Thanks for the support!
Hi @shaunmulligan . I’ve used a 3.5 mm audio cable from the audio jack on the pi to the auxilary port of my speakers.
Hi @EagleEye can you please provide some more detail about your setup? Which raspberrypi model are you using? Are you using a DAC? A photo could also be helpful
Regards
