Unable to load Dashboard - balena.sense

Hi everyone. This is my first post, and today was my first attempt at getting sense working on my RPi4, but I have lurked around here for quite some time.

For some reason, I am unable to access by Dashboard through a local connection or via the public URL. My firewall could be blocking the public URL, but I should be able to reach it when I’m on the same network.

Using http://rpi-ipaddress results in “This site can’t be reached.” Using the public URL, I get “tunneling socket could not be established: 500”

I used this as my guide to download the img to my PC and used the balena etcher to right the image.

OS: balenaOS 2.80.5+rev1
Supervisor: 12.8.7
Target Release: 8f5c093744d0e429ff2809f05a6f0ea6

I can ping the device, all services (connector, dashboard, influxdb, mqtt, sensor) report that they are running.

I don’t see the word “dashboard” anywhere in the logs.

Status is "Online (VPN Only)"

I can connect via SSH using the balena.io portal.

Hello @BradB welcome to the forums. Sorry to hear that your balenaSense didn’t work straightforward!

Do you run any firewall where you are trying to deploy your project?

Hey @bradb

The status Online (VPN only) means that the device is only partially connected to balenaCloud and cannot reach the API service. It will need to do this to let balenaCloud know it’s public IP address before the public URL feature will work. Please could you check whether you have a firewall or an AdBlocker which is blocking access to the API. More details here:

Hi. Were you able to get it working properly?

To everyone who has followed up with me, thank you.

I am running a pfsense firewall, but, other than some geolocation blocking, I can’t think of anything that would be a factor.

However, I did purchase a new micro SD card and hope to dive into this again over the weekend

Great, let us know how it turns out.

By turning off my pfBlockerNG on my pfsense firewall, I was able to load the dashboard. That’s a bummer though, I’ll need to find a way to make this work with pfBlockerNG.

Thanks for the help everyone!
