SD card failing to flash Jetson Nano image

Hello, this is my first post on this forum. I downloaded balenaEtcher after successfully formatting my SD card. I also downloaded the Jetson image winrar file. After selecting my SD card and the winrar file, I click flash and the flashing begins.

Now, at roughly 14 to 26 percent completion of the flashing, I hear the sound of my usb SD card connector disconnecting and then the flash failing. I get the notification saying “Oops something went wrong while trying to flash [insert name of SD card drive]”

The version of my balenaEtcher is 1.5.121 and I have windows 10.

Hello @leviburner welcome to the balena forums.

Sorry to hear that you can’t flash the SD card. Could you please check the logs of Etcher?

On Windows you can use CTRL - SHIFT - I to access the developer console and see any error messages in the log within the console tab in more detail. If there are any errors here feel free to post them so we can investigate further.

Let us know if you can find the logs and share them with us

Hi @leviburner, you are correct, that is definitely the error log – and that noise you hear is exactly what you described, the drive being ejected:

However, I am not sure why that occurs. First, can you point us to the Exact image you are flashing? I know you mention its a Jetson Nano image, but which exact one?

Second, do you have any antivirus or malware software running, or Windows Defender? Try disabling that temporarily while you flash.

Finally, what kind of media are you flashing to? An SD Card? How large is the card, and, what brand? Can you try another SD Card just to rule out if that one in particular has bad blocks on it?

I got the image from here.
I turned off real-time protection to disable Windows Defender but I still got that the flash failed.
I unfortunately don’t have another SD card, but this one is a SanDisk microSDXC UHS-1 64GB storage with 120mb/s. It came with my Jetson Nano kit here and the card reader I am using is here.

I will try to do the process on a different PC but besides that I guess I am unlucky.

Ok, perfect, that is a quality SD Card and you are downloading the correct image. I think it might be worth deleting the currently downloaded image file from your computer, and re-downloading it one more time just to ensure there was no corruption and the image file is fully intact.

Of course, trying another computer could also be a good idea, just to see if there is something interfering/preventing success on that one. I have used Etcher to flash that exact file many times, so, I know it does work!
