i used to be flashing a 128gb retropie construct picture to my 128gb sd. it was overdue and started out gradual so i left it overnight. about 9 hours later it became best at 21%. i failed to assume it have to omegle be taking see you later so i notion it changed into because i had it it plugged right into a usb hub and no longer a main usb port. so i cancelled the flashing and now i cannot reformat the sd. i even tried the partition master application, which just gets hung up seeking to wipe the information. is there besides to get better the sd or is it $20 wasted?
Hey there! Sorry to hear you are having SD Card problems (I feel your pain!) Here are some questions that might help us triage the issue:
- What operating system are you running?
- It is very weird that the flashing hang. Just to confirm: did the flashing or the validate step hang?
- What brand and class is the SD Card?
- Have you tried following this guide: https://github.com/balena-io/etcher/blob/master/docs/USER-DOCUMENTATION.md#recovering-broken-drives?
Hello,
I have the same image but caused differently. I didn’t realise until I was too late but I attempted to flash a zip file to the SD card.
I just want to know if I can save my microSD card that I can no longer format or open through windows 10 windows explorer. If I click it is says please insert disk. If I click format it says size unknown and fails.
I have “cleaned” the SD using diskpart.exe as recommended in your link above but that hasn’t changed the situation.
BalenaEtcher is still recognising the SD card (Lexar microSD 32gb) but still fails the flash.
Any help will be appreciated.
Dave
Hey @gob12345 after using the diskpart.exe
on the SD card, you said that balenaEtcher failed to flash, but could you see and open the SD card from windows explorer? Also, what are you trying to flash to the SD card? Also, if you can provide the logs from etcher it would be really helpful in debugging this further (you can open it using CTRL + SHIFT + I on Windows I believe).
Hi @sradevski
balenaEtcher failed first of all which has damaged the SD card. I used to be able to enter it/format it using windows explorer but now I am unable to.
I am trying to flash home assistant for raspberry pi from the home-assistant website. https://www.home-assistant.io/hassio/installation/
CTRL+SHIFT+I brings up the developer tools, is that what you want?
balenaEtcher failed first of all which has damaged the SD card
Nothing is damaged, the partition table is likely not understandable by your machine which is possible if the image is bad (did you check the SHA/MD5 hash?) or if the partition table has partitions which your machine cannot understand e.g. linux partitions unreadable by windows hosts etc
The developer tools should have a console which will print out errors during/after a flash. These logs might hint at the reason it failed

Yeah, this is required
Glad it’s sorted.
Hi,
I’m doing a similar thing.
I used a 128GB card but after flashing with the home assistant which completed successfully, it shows the space as 32MB for the boot and 0.99MB as USB drive. Is this correct? This was a brand new card. Did I have to format it with windows before hand?
Windows cannot read ext4 partitions, which is what Linux uses, so that partition will not show up on Windows. This is normal.
