I tested the new version 1.5.7.9. A couple of insights:

  1. I looked over the code fix (https://github.com/balena-io/etcher/commit/42032964146effb7d66c043d79a41de41fb042e4) and it looks like it only fixes the error not being shown. What about working along side defender AV?

  2. Also about the error being show, it only shows the writer process failing and no error message users can follow up with (except for contacting dev support)

Hi

Unfortunately, at the moment, there isn’t much we can do to make Windows Defender trust etcher. Your best option is to turn “controlled folder access” off
