My etcher claims to be Version 1.5.5…
is that why it does not work? starts writing an img, but ends as quick as starting.
Any suggestions??

Please could you try using the latest version of Etcher which you can always find on our site at https://www.balena.io/etcher or on GitHub at https://github.com/balena-io/etcher/releases/latest
At the time of writing this is v1.5.33.
Although, you could also try running the version you have with administrative privileges - right click on the icon and click ‘Run as administrator’.

That is the latest download directly from the balenaEtcher Site.
I am also surprised, because anywhere you look highest version seems to be 1.5.33.

Ahh I see what you mean! v1.5.5 is an older version released on 28th February, v1.5.33 is the latest, released only a couple of days ago. Don’t think of the version number as a decimal number but instead that each of the three numbers can increment on their own in MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH format. You can see (and download) all of the releases here: https://github.com/balena-io/etcher/tags
That being said, I’ve just downloaded the version for Windows from the main site and it gave me v1.5.33 so I am not sure how you obtained such an old version.

You’re welcome! On Windows you can use CTRL - SHIFT - I to access the developer console and see any error messages in the log in more detail. If there are any errors here feel free to post them so we can investigate further.
I also have this problem, using Etcher version 1.5.33 downloaded directly via Firefox, on win 10, version 1803, build 17134.407. This was after multiple failures other methods where Etcher wouldn’t write to the USB (16GB Kingston Data Traveler G4). So now I’m looking for a post I read which said a user with the same problem succeeded using Etcher version 1.2 which I’ve just downloaded using the URL from chrisys. I’ll let you all Know if I’m successful.
hey, thanks for the report! For Etcher 1.5.33, when you have the flash failure, what happens there exactly? Can you also see if the debug console has any information / errors listed? You can get there by pressing Ctrl+Shift+I when Etcher is open.

Thank you for that much interest in this topic - i’m truely impressed of that much response!
Actually I found a WoA (WorkAround) that solved the problem of not getting the image onto the MicroSD.
What i did:
I remebered the last time(with the same source of BalenaEtcher, i did the flashing on my laptop.
this time i tried to do it with my desktop - and got stuck with the issue named in the topic.
First i downloaded the latest release of Etcher, second i did a new Windows ADMIN account (the actual WoA) and ran that new installation on the virgin account.
That worked out like a charme!
Can’t remember when, but i already had some similar issue with other software also.
Haven’t checked the reports after got the image flashed,
