Flash failed need help

Hello there

I have a problem (i use win10 64) i wanna flash octopi (2.88gb file size) on my 32gb sandisc sdcard i unzip the file load the *.img into etcher select target sdhc card. size 31.7gb f:\ hit the flash button n agree its flashing takes about 2minutes done now the validating starts open the file folder start n at 15% etcher say flash failed tried it with 2 different sd cards with other imgs n different files

When i open the sd card it says f:\boot… With some files in it but only 51.7 mb

Could you please help me whats going wrong

Hi Nikolay,
on balenaEtcher, you can open a console with Ctrl + Shift + I and that might give you more information about what is going on in case there is an error.
Check it out, and if you cannot make anything of it, let us know, will try to help out

PS. you do not need to unzip the file if there is only an .img inside of it

Ohhh nice i see its self decompressing n i see flashing 1 device 47%n so on zero fails in the console letz wait for the validation

I don’t see anything wrong.
Is that where it stops working? at 14%, it says flash failedand nothing happens afterwards?
You mentioned that after that, you opened the SD File System in Windows, and only so the boot partition. Actually windows does not recognize all types of partitions, so, if you don’t see them there it doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
Have you tried the SD card in your end-device?

Yes it said flash failed at 14% n a screen pops up with the texr flash failed abd a button with flash another.

Hey @Mochipet, I tried downloading and flashing the same octopi-buster-lite-0.17.0.zip file on my Win10 x64 PC and didn’t run into any issues with validation.
You said you tried multiple SD cards and multiple files? Can you provide an example of another image file you tried flashing with Etcher? Did it fail during validation as well?

I saw this warning on octoprint.org so at first I suspected an issue with the image, but if you are seeing the same behaviour with other images then we may be looking at a larger issue.

There have been some reports regarding current revisions of the Raspberry Pi 4 1/2/4 GB refusing to boot with the stable OctoPi 0.17.0 image. If that affects you, please try the OctoPi 0.18.0 release candidate.

Do you have any luck with the SD card in your end-device, even though the validation failed?

Also some additional information for you once we get your Etcher install working. We actually have a barebones project for running Octoprint on balena if that is of interest to you:

hello, i was just wondering if you solved this issue, i am having a similar/ same problem, the flash fails rather wuickly and i do not know what to do to solve this problem. if anyone has any advice, i would greatly appreciate it!!

I am having the same issue with v17 and alternate v18.

Flashes fine but fails at 15% verification on different microSD cards and card readers.

Hi folks

Can you mention the version of etcher that you are using? Please ensure it’s 1.5.113 - being on the latest helps us easily recreate issues
Once you download the image from Octopi, can you run a md5-sum and check if the resulting value matches with the one mentioned here - https://octoprint.org/download/ . Make sure that you run the md5-sum command on the zip, and not the img itself. This will ensure that the file you have downloaded is complete.
Lastly - have you tried this on any other laptop/PC? Do you see the same result?

Exact same issue. Fails at 15% for Octo .17, and at 16% for .18. Tried different cards and readers as well. Output is below.

This is a known issue on Windows for disk images containing fat or ntfs partitions.
Please check https://github.com/balena-io/etcher/issues/3197 and this thread Checksums do not match
TO summarize, the SD cards were most probably flashed fine but the verification fails because Windows is creating folders / files on fat partitions before the verification.
