Etcher does - nothing!?

Ever since the update to 1.5.120 on my Mac Book running Big Sur Etcher does not flash (at least SDs) any more. Test on Windows with the same Etcher version, same Flash card and same image works just fine.
Any image file flashed to SD or emmc (on usb-adapter or directly) fails.
The source is chosen, the target is chosen, flashing is chosen, the flash window opens, asks for password (I’m) not running on admin) and ist back to Etcher window. No error. Reinstalling etcher did not help.

Heres some Data from the console where the cancellation appears:

Hi, can you check if balenaEtcher has permission to access removable devices? You should be able to check this using the following steps:

  • Open System Preferences then click Security & Privacy
  • Click the Privacy tab and scroll down to click Files and Folders
  • Check the apps listed to see if balenaEtcher is added and has permission to access removable devices.

A file has been uploaded using Jellyfish: Jellyfish

Hello, did you manage to fix the issue?

Hi, thanx for the replies.
Etcher has full HDD access. With Files & Folders it is listet as HDD full access…
Strange is that I cannot alter this there.
No word about removable devices there…

Hi,

Thanks for getting back. Do you have the SD card showing up in the Security & Privacy window? Can you share screenshot of what you see after plugging in the device on the Security & Privacy settings?

Cheers,
N

Hey @wyrdlg ,

Any luck with Nitish’s suggestions? It would also be useful if you could run dmesg | tail right after inserting the SD card.

Cheers,
Nico.

Darn. Reminds me to fix my sudoer…

Will try it. Thanx.

Let us know how it goes when you get a chance to check this out!

Hey, did you have any luck getting logs while the SD card was connected?

At last I got to it. So I went and added my user to sudoers to get dmesg working. All fine there now. Started to push ab 15 GB ISO file to a USB Stick. It works! The Window asking me for my password came and it ran. So far after that the etcher window simply did nothing. I didn’t do anything else. So next I’ll try an SD card with a raspberry image. Does not make sense to me to be sudoers to use etcher.
Aaaand SD works as well.

Glad you got this working.

Thanks!
