Etcher 2.1.0 on Windows 11 fails at end of verification on Kingston 64GB USB 3.2 drive

I am trying to flash a debian ISO to a brand new Kingston 64GB 3.2 drive. I am running this as a local administrator on Windows 11, version 24H2, latest update applied. I have checked the Firewall settings, and there is an entry for balenaEtcher:

  • Status/Name Action Direction Protocol Address/Ports/ICMP Type
  • Internet Out Allow Out TCP/UDP Remote port 443
  • Default Rule “Smart Mode” In/Out All

The flash process proceeds to the end, and verification also goes to the end. Then I get the dreaded “Something went wrong” message. I have tried this on all 3 USB ports, and get the same error message. On the last attempt, looking in the Console of the developer tools, it starts with

  • “Failed to load resource: net::ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND”
  • It then lists successful “Verifying 1 device, X%… with 0 failed devices” with X 3% to 100%. None of these 98 message indicate any error.
  • After “Verifying 1 device, 100% at 34.50 MB/s (total 34.50 MB/s) eta in 0s with 0 failed devices” the next line in the log is “fail event”
    Here is a screen snap.
