Etcher 1.5 problems on Mac

@zvin Are you guys going to address this major Mac bug that has been outstanding for months? I see no updates on a fix for this and yet the Mac version still is offered for download. I would consider updating to Pro if I knew that there might be real support for bugs and issues over time. But that fact that this issue has remained unfixed with no communication on status doesn’t give me confidence you guys are on the case. Please update us on where this stands. Getting close to just abandoning Etcher as option.

I actually signed up for an account so I could register my disgust that this bug isn’t fixed yet. Either sort it out, or stop saying it works on MacOS.

I’ve emailed Raspberry Pi to see if they will remove the recommendation for your app until it actually works. I’m tired of the app randomly deciding to start, ruining cards, and everything else.

@zvin, chrisys, @thundron : Less time wasting with logs. You have plenty. It seems like you’re just stalling for time.

Maybe you should call in a fresh developer to take a look? This seems way outside your skill level, team.

Same issue as described here. App menu bars appear but the rest of the page is blank. I can pull up the About and Dev Tools windows but nothing else. Attempting to run the suggested log script in the Terminal fails.

@chrispetrauskas thanks for the info. Did you manage to catch the failure logs for the script? We have really been struggling ourside to reproduce this error. Lots of our team runs macOS and use 1.5.x versions of etcher daily and unfortunately haven’t hit it. Do you have any other specific software running when launching etcher? Wondering if we can try get some correlation between all the people that have hit this issue.

Hi everyone,
Unfortunately we haven’t been able to reproduce this issue as it seems only a niche of OSX users are experiencing this, with no clear common cause yet, while the large majority of other users has no trouble opening Etcher.
The most useful thing you can do is try to give us as much information as possible, going into detail also on what are the specs of your Mac (cpu, graphics card, ram, etc.) so that we can try to find a correlation between the issues you’re all having and look for more specific information, as it might not be an issue with Etcher itself but rather (and probably) the environment in which it runs.

Then this app is not compatible with MacOS. Stop claiming it is.

We have quite a big number of users successfully running Etcher on MacOS. If you face the described problem, we’ll appreciate it if you provide details on your environment.

Running a new i7 Mac mini with 10.14.6. I’m have the exact same problem as the above users. This is a real problem, because like many of them, I now don’t have a bootable SD. Only window I can call up is this:

Shaun,

Can you please provide me with how to pull the error logs as commands I tried from earlier in this thread didn’t work.

ps - FWIW, I am able to use v1.4.3.

Hi @jldcat and @ChrisPetrauskas, I think your issue is the same as this one we are tracking: https://github.com/balena-io/etcher/issues/2687

I took a note in the issue to update this forum thread when we have a solution. Feel free to follow that github issue to see updates.

Chris, thank you for the detailed list of your environment. By pressing Cmd+Alt+I on Etcher app, you could open the dev console to see if there are any error logs.

Lorenzo, the maintainer of Etcher repo, noted that he’d like to experiment with adding more error logging to capture details of this issue as we find it hard to reproduce it on our end.

@gelbal

I opened the Dev Tools window but it seems that all of the tabs are empty. Also, it launches with the warning:
“Dev Tools was disconnected from the page. Once page is reloaded, DevTools will automatically reconnect.”

Surveying all of the tabs after that shows them all empty. Attempting to reload any pages with CMD-R just triggers an empty result with the same alert again.

Thanks,
Chris

@Mikeybob, does it work for you now ?

I observe the javascript pop-up error on macOS Catalina with the latest balanaEtcher 1.5.86:

Flashing still works though, appreciate of that.

Hope the team can work out the Catalina kinks!
