Dump1090-FA keep disconnecting

I have install Balena ADSB on my RPi3b+ and the Dump 1090-FA keep disconnecting. I have also install on my RPI4 but there is no issues. As for RPi3B+ i’m using 64bit OS. for RPi3b+. I have sent email for assistance but i have been informed to use 32bit OS. The problem is there no 32bit OS in the listing. Only RPi3 with 64bit OS. Can anybody help?

Hello @atoi68

Please could you describe the process that you are using to build and deploy Balena ADSB.

When you are adding your device via the Balena dashboard the pull-down box for Select device type offers you a choice of either Raspberry Pi 3 (32-bit) or Raspberry Pi 3 (using 64bit OS). Just select Raspberry Pi 3 from the list.

Sorry to say it appears on Raspberry Pi3 (using 64bitOS). There is NO Raspberry Pi 3 (32Bit) Option.

This is what i am getting.

Because the default device type for your application is Raspberry Pi 4 you are only being shown aarch64 compatible devices. You will need to create a new application with a default device type of Raspberry Pi 3 to be able to access the Raspberry Pi 3 build types.

How can i do that. Im quite new in this. Much appreciated.

I cannot clone this repository . Please help!

Hi there,
just for information, you can’t use git from the device as it’s not installed. There are two ways to do this:

  1. The simplest is to go to the repository GitHub - ketilmo/balena-ads-b: ADS-B Flight Tracker running on balena with support for FlightAware, Flightradar24, PlaneFinder, OpenSky Network, and RadarBox. and click on “deploy with balena button”, from there the dashboard opens, and you can name your new one application by choosing the right device type.

  2. “the manual way” here are the steps:
    From the dashboard:

  • create a new application with the right device type
  • copy the name of the created application

From your computer

  • Open a terminal
  • Install Balena CLI (if not already done)
  • Clone the project somewhere using git clone https://github.com/ketilmo/balena-ads-b.git
  • Run cd balena-ads-b
  • from the cloned project folder run balena push <APPLICATION_NAME>

Hi I have resolved the issue. The problem lies when you selected Balena ADSB Project from the button when you are burning the image. The link is not the same with www.balena.io. This link will lead you where you cannot find the RPI3 button to download the iamge. You cannot use RPI 64 bit OS since the architecture is not the same with RPI3b+. So you need to download the image through www.balena.io and not the link at browse project button when you are doing burning of image .
This is the problem link

Hi there,
happy to hear that you could solve the problem. if I understood correctly the problem was that when you pressed the button, a modal appeared that does not make you change the device type. If so, just for your information, the ‘Deploy with balena’ button was acting like this because the application was already existing on your dashboard. Once the application is created, you cannot change the device type but only deploy over the existing one. The solution is to press the Create a new application instead button that you will find inside th showed modal or to manually delete the existing application. Hope this will help for future projects.

Nope it is not like that. if you go through the process when press the browse project button and select the Balena ADSB project, you will notice Raspberi Pi 3B+ device was not inside the list. This only happen if you use browse project uption button that pop during burning image of the raspberi pi. If you browse project from www.balena.io site it wont happen.

@atoi68 I’ve just been trying to reproduce what you’re reporting here and can’t find any situation where Raspberry Pi 3 does not show up in the list when I’m using ‘Create and deploy to application’. Note that this selection covers all device types, there isn’t a specific entry for ‘Raspberry Pi 3B+’. If you could share a screen recording of what you’re seeing that would help us to narrow down the problem!

Can you leave an email address so that i can send you through the email.? It is quite hard to explain through the forum since its limit you to paste the screen shot.

You can email support@balena.io and link to this thread.

I have just been through the process you described though. The link from the home page is the same as the “Browse Projects” link, in etcher, and they both link to https://hub.balena.io.

I also went through the process to create an ADS-B project on Balena Hub using the Raspberry Pi 4 device type, using the “Deploy With Balena” button.

Then, I tried to go through the same process again, pressing “Deploy with Balena”, and I am met with a different screen.

There I click “Create a new application instead”, and I can select Raspberry Pi 3 from the list
