Samsung laptop cant see bootable USB

I am trying to create a bootable usb with Ubuntu on it and eventually switch to Linux. It is a 2013 vintage Samsung Laptop that I am trying to get to see the USB. The Samsung Laptop never sees the USB as a bootable device. I Created the USB on a MacBook pro using Etcher and the Ubuntu version available from their Web Site. Is there anything you can do to help me.

Hi @davewalsh,

Often times a laptop will need to be told to boot from the USB device from the BIOS. I’m not sure if this process will be exactly what you need for your model of laptop, but Samsung does at least have generic instructions here for getting into the BIOS and enabling boot from USB: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshooting/TSG01109651/
