I forked Rpi-imager and thought it might be an improvment for you over balena Etcher

Hello fellow developers,
I am the creator of OctoPi and CustomPiOS and quite a few other distributions. And I noticed you have your own neat Ether build.

I thought you might like to know I recently forked rpi-imager, because I think it makes sense to have a community-maintain list of images and features, while pulling changes from mainstream. I like the concept that the flashser connects online and pulls the images, rather than the user has to download and then feed the images in to the sketcher themselves.

I just wanted to say that if you want to use the pi imager fork you are welcome:

You can PR your own images to it using the pi-imager-web repo:

Would love to hear your thoughts about this as I see you maintain quite a lot of images yourselves.

I like the idea of having more support for unofficial OS’s. Not exactly the same thing as etcher but something that is helpful for new users.

Whats your process for the community adding more images?

i’d like to see dietpi as a addition.

Suggestion:

  • add to the bottom of the unofficial os’s list with link to process to add a new one

thanks for sharing

Hey oran,
Thanks for your suggestion!
I opened an issue for this here:

And for now I added instruction on the pi-imager github page:

I also opened an issue on dietpi github asking if they want it there;
