Confusion about power source for flashing

In BalenaCloud setup, it says to power the BalenaFin with barrel jack AND plug in USB.

In the BalenaFin documentation it says to ONLY power the fin from USB when flashing. What’s the correct answer? I can’t get my board to show up in either scenario on my iMac.

To flash the compute module, you use USB. To run the Fin, you use the barrel jack.
