I have made several attempts to flash 2 separate USB drives and both do the same thing. “balenaEtcher needs privileged access in order to flash disk. Type your password to allow this”. I used a Samsung T5 portable SSD 1TB, which has no password to access it. 2nd device is VAVA portable 512GB and same message. I removed and re-downloaded the app. I have a Mac OS 11.6 (latest) and the Etcher app version is 1.5.122dmg. What gives? I am going to Linux Zorin Pro 16. Help!
Hi @IOTman – and welcome to the Forums. That password prompt is your local Mac password that is being requested, not a password on the destination drive you are writing to. Mac requires elevated permissions to write to block devices like SD Cards or USB sticks in this case (they did not require this in the past…only more recent versions have implemented this change). Hope that gets you going.
