After Update: Flashing Impossible - Etcher always doesn't accept my Password... Virus? Bug?

Hi,

I just have updated my BalenaEtcher version 1.5.5(3?) to the recent one (1.5.71) via download from your WebSite on my Macbook (macOS Catalina, 10.15.2)

After the first run I was surprized that in the last step - just after klicking “FLASH” - a messagebox appears with the following text: “balenaEtcher wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this.”
… but okay, I’ve entered my password, the messagebox reappeared, so I’ve tried it again and again and again…

What’s wrong?
It worked fine with the former Version (and the same PW !)

Thank you in advance for your support,
Manuel

Hi there @Manuel welcome to the forums.

The message box that you’re seeing is totally normal; it’s required to elevate permissions of the application in order to write to the drive. It’s not normal that it would not accept your password though. What you can do is open the logs for Etcher before trying to flash, and then check to see what the output is when entering your password. To open the logs on macOS you can use CMD + OPT + i. Let us know what you find.

I am having the same problem and I did I am using macOS Catalina 10.15.2 and BalenaEtcher version 1.5.71 The only difference between my problem and Manuel is that instead of clicking it and it reappearing the message goes away and it sends me back to the beginning. I did CMD + OPT + I and got

Hi
Can you try opening the application using sudo?

In the meantime, we are also figuring out how to reproduce this on our end.

I figured out the problem. You have to be in an administrator’s account and type in the administrators password.
