Hi, I am trying to recover an old-ish PC (no USB boot…), but Etcher will not accept any new, fresh DVD. it claims the units are both “locked” and “Too small” (also tried with Linux Mint, about 350Mb).
It could be just that Etcher does not work with optical drives anymore, am I doing something wrong?
Welcome to the forums, Alberto!
I don’t think writing to optical disks was ever supported by balenaEtcher (see this GitHub issue, for example). Perhaps you have used a different tool in the past?
I’m having the same problem.
System:
MacBook Air M1 (2020), “stock” with only the addition of a USB-connected DVD writer, running MacOS Ventura.
Problem:
Trying to burn LMDE6 ISO (about 2.5 GB) says Locked and Too Small.
Workaround works fine:
On the same workstation session, without touching the DVD drive or media, I simply Right-click the ISO file and chose Burn to Disk … (which even gives me correct write-speed options for this drive and media), and it works perfectly.
It’s currently one of the choices in Step 2, “Select target”. It even auto-discovers when a new blank DVD is inserted, real-time.
I think this post by lmbarros should be removed, as it is not currently correct.
