Hi all, ive downloaded etcher and its advised I have macOS 10.13.6 and the application requires macOS 11.0 or later. I cant do that. I wanted to get Linux on my 2010 imac. All the forums and youtube videos suggest etcher for this but doesn’t seem possible, at least anymore. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hello, do you need to install Etcher on the old Mac, or can you install Etcher on a newer Mac/PC and use that to create some kind of bootable USB stick for the old Mac to install Linux? (I’m not too familiar with Macs!) If you must run Etcher on the old Mac, you might be able to find an old version of Etcher from the releases page that works on such an old MacOS, maybe from 2020-2021. Releases · balena-io/etcher · GitHub - click on “Assets” under one of the older releases.
Thank you. I have tried on my new Mac and run into a validation error right at the end. I get so close every time but can’t get it over the line. It says “Something went wrong, if it is a compressed image, please check that the archive is not corrupted. The writer process ended unexpectedly”. I have tried downloading both Mac versions of etcher and also tried downloading two different ISO files for Australia where I am.
Also tried the old releases 1.7.9 and 1.7.0 on my old Mac, downloaded the zip files and the dmg files but get a warning the disk images couldn’t be open
I figured it out. I just burnt the iso file to a dvd that was 8.5gb and used that as the installer and im now installing it following this video https://youtu.be/GcdhJfe3aP8?si=fl7Urn_57oPIxV7O
