BalenaEtcher 1.14.3 failing during validation stage

I have two separate users using 1.14.3 and over the past two days, each time they flash a usb, it is failing at the validation stage, right near 100%.

The only error in the dev logs is related to screensaver:

"error: error invoking remote method ‘enable-screensaver’: no handler registered for ‘enable-screensaver’

at EventEmitter.i.invoke (electron/js2c/renderer_init.js:73)"

Both users are running etcher as adminstrator.

I have never experienced this issue, but i’m also using either version 1.5.122 on linux or 1.73. on pc. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. I am not IT, but everyone is looking to me to solve this issue…

Hey @rbykowski thanks for reporting this. There have been significant changes to Etcher over the past few days, I’d suggest giving the latest pre-release version a try: Release v1.18.1 · balena-io/etcher · GitHub

If the validation fails it may mean that the device they are writing is failing (getting old). It happens with sd cards more often than you think.
So etcher attempts to write it, then during the validation it cannot read back the same, meaning it is corrupted.

If you think the validation error is wrong, you can skip the validation completely.
Or even after the validation ran and gave you errors, the drive is still flashed, you may try to use it, the validation does not change anything on the devices.

We will have some extra testing around the validation step based on your feedback, in the meantime if you have updates with different versions or devices don’t hesitate to share.

I have the same issue with 1.18.4, was trying to flash ubuntu image to a SanDisk 64GB drive (not SD card), the disk becomes un-recognizable by Windows upon finish. Tried to boot with the drive with no luck.

Yes, it happens to me too. I do not know how to proceed with this problem.

@Dav what Etcher version are you using?

Latest Etcher version is here Release v1.18.8 · balena-io/etcher · GitHub
