Balena Sound and Pi Power-Off

Hey all,

I plan on upgrading my vintage amp with a balena sound streamer. The pi will be integrated into the casing of the amp. I‘m going to power it with its own switching power supply, which will be turned on/off with the amps main switch. This way I can turn off the streamer and the amp in one go.

Since the Pi will be inside of the amp, I‘m afraid of data corruption due to the power-off of the pi without a preceding safe shutdown. Theoretically I could use a UPS like PiSugar that‘s able to provide enough power for a safe shutdown and trigger it once the power supply goes out. However, these devices are pretty expensive.

I read that balena os is largely partitioned as read-only, so I thought that I could maybe even just power the pi on/off by switching the power supply through the main switch.
Does anyone know if balena sound writes to the disk whilst streaming? So as long as I don‘t make any changes to the setting or so, will streaming from my phone work without writing to the disk? Can I safely cut the power to the pi and will it boot when providing power again?

Thanks in advance
