Have mac/ios devices. Want to install ubuntu on the win computer to be able to use it as a laptop and get to understand linux.
Problems with win10 computer: DVD does not work, has no usable browser.
Have downloaded ubuntu on my mac computer. It was suggested I use your product to create the usb drive.
Question is: What are my next steps???
Hello, on your Mac you’ll want to use Etcher to flash the USB drive with the Ubuntu .iso file you downloaded. (It will overwrite everything on the USB drive and make it bootable) Next, you can boot the win10 computer using that USB drive. You may need to adjust your computer’s BIOS or boot settings (often by hitting F2 or DEL at startup) to allow booting from the USB drive. Note that installing the OS will overwrite anything currently on the win10 computer’s hard drive, so make sure you have backed up anything you want to keep! Let us know if you need any further assistance installing your OS.
Thank you for your speedy response.
My apologies. I should have been more clear on my question. Everything that you wrote I understand what I am needing to do for I have done it before.
My question is: Do I download your software for the mac or the PC? Or does it matter? Because I am unsure of what your software actually does to the USB drive, I am unsure. Maybe since you did not differentiate it does not matter?
You’d need to download Etcher for Mac, run it, select Flash from File and select your ubuntu image, plug in your USB drive and select it as the destination. Then click Flash. Once flashing is done, you should have a bootable USB drive.
Thanks again for your response and help!
I am using the laptop with ubuntu.
Just one more thing, I am hoping you can answer:
When using machines with different operating systems and I need to download apps, I need to download the app based on the operating system I am currently using which will allow me to make an USB or DVD to use in another machine with a different OS. Is this correct?
I am trying to understand the process, so I will not spend so much time on forums
Thanks in advance.
That’s correct - if you are using Windows then you should download the Windows version of Etcher, and then use that app to create a USB/DVD for whatever OS you need.
Much Love! !
Thanks
