SOUND_DISABLE_SPOTIFY disables Spotify, then Spotify immediately restarts

The same is happening on my two devices for all the “SOUND_DISABLE_PLUGIN” options, not just Spotify.

I set Device environment variable like this:

Hi there,

Can you specify what version of balena-sound you have deployed, and the version of your OS & supervisor?

Screenshot of Dashboard follows. Hopefully it has all the version info you need? If not, LMK. Thx!

Hi Paul,

Looks like you’re running the latest version of the balena OS and supervisor. Can you confirm you deployed v3.4.5 (the most current release available from https://github.com/balenalabs/balena-sound?

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

I might need some technical hand-holding regarding how to query/display that data point.

I can tell you I “should be” very current, as I clicked on the “Deploy With Balena” button on 1/4/21 and downloaded this iso:
balena-cloud-balena-sound-raspberrypi4-64-2.65.0+rev1-v12.2.11.img.zip
…burned to SD Card, etc.

I don’t mind getting a bit more technical to troubleshoot if needed. Willing to take the next step and install CLI if needed.

Thanks!

Paul

Hi Paul,

Ah, I think you need to add device variables for your Spotify credentials (SOUND_SPOTIFY_USERNAME and SOUND_SPOTIFY_PASSWORD. More information is available in the Customization section of the documentation: https://sound.balenalabs.io/docs/customization/#plugins

Let us know how you make out.

John

Hmm. I don’t have a Spotify account.

I’m trying to disable Spotify; not trying to use Spotify.

I want to use Bluetooth, but am having some sound issues (static) that I’m trying to isolate (troubleshoot). I wanted to disable Spotify, disable Airplay, etc, so that those extra processes aren’t competing with bluetooth cpu use.

Paul

Sounds like a good plan. There are also troubleshooting tips (for stuttery audio, etc.) that you might want to check out. The Spotify feature does require a paid account.

John

I upgraded to Supervisor 12.3.0 and I am still having this issue with SOUND_DISABLE_SPOTIFY:

23.01.21 10:04:46 (-0700) spotify Spotify is disabled, exiting…
23.01.21 10:04:48 (-0700) Restarting service ‘spotify sha256:c16670d485fead85dac04f07ae8b942824e28e20ddd1f3fcd189c0cc7e8da9c7’

…repeats endlessly…

Spotify keeps restarting when I set SOUND_DISABLE_SPOTIFY.

I’m running Pi Zero W showing high CPU usage.

I’m want to reduce CPU load by not running services I’m not using.

Any ideas?

Hi

A simple way to do this would be to edit your docker-compose file i.e. this one - https://github.com/balenalabs/balena-sound/blob/master/docker-compose.yml

You can remove the lines for spotify service from this, and then push an update to your device using balena push
