Due to the fact that krikstone is EOL with april 2026, is there a upgrade of the balena system to on of the newest os on the roadmap?
How long would it take to upgrade to the newest yocto version?

Hey @pschmo
Thanks for the request, good to hear from you!
Which device type are you deploying on? Meta balena has been updated to support Scarthgap but not all device types are running on it as yet. We are aiming to update every device type eventually, but we need to address them one by one, and will be prioritizing depending on the number of existing devices for each device type on balenaCloud.
In response to your question, are you asking how long we anticipate it is going to take for us to make the upgrade available, or how long it will take you to upgrade once it is available for your device type?
Thanks
Jasmine
Hallo @Jazzagi
thank you very much for your answer,
this means the delevopment is already on the road and we can expect an upgrade of the balena OS before April 2026?
We are using compulab (rp4-64 and imx8), onlogic and owasys devices.
My question was, how long would it take, that we can download the new image to upgrade our devices with the newest Yocto version.
Also including some time to test everyting is working as expected.
With best regards
@Jazzagi what is the status of this issue?
Hi @pschmo,
I’ve spoken with our OS engineering team.
They say there should be no problems with upgrading the imx8 and owasys devices. We’d need to check with the onlogic device. We’re aware with issues with upgrading the rp4-64 image size due to rootfs sizes introduced in the scarthgap update. There’s some technical work here that needs to happen first, which the team is currently focussing on.
We’ll endeavour to let you know as things develop internally.
