May I please piggy-back on this question as I have the same trouble? I tried to flash Linux Mint and I tried various sources from this site Linux Mint 22.1 "Xia" - Linux Mint for the download, and any seem to give this error:
Something went wrong while opening /Users/Kai/Downloads/linuxmint-22.1-xfce-64bit.iso.
Error: (0 , h.requestMetadata) is not a function
It also occurs regardless whether I download the file first or enter the link directly in balena etcher. For starters, I do not know what the error means.
hope you can access this ok. and thanks so much for offering to help. You will notice one other person will be tracking our success. this iso file was sum checked for integrity.
I was able to get around this by moving my windows pc on an “unrestricted” network(no firewall, no dns hijacking, no VPN). Haven’t checked but it seems balena needs to connect to the ad screen in order to proceed. This is when you are flashing a file, you see a screen with some upsell. You cant flash if you dont see this screen.
sounds promising. can you give me a more detailed “newbie” instruction set so I can attempt what you have suggested. Much thanks for your patience and expertise. Ray
Hello @raygo I did download the iso file in question, and was not able to reproduce your issue - it flashed and verified flawlessly using Etcher 1.18.11 and 2.1.2 on Windows 10. So I guess we need to figure out what’s different with your setup. Can you provide more information about your target drive and how it is attached?
@ri_g as far as I know, Etcher does not need internet access to function. I pulled out my Ethernet cable and was able to flash the iso in question multiple times.
I have the same error. Etcher doesn’t work.
I tried to install lubuntu 24.04.2 ISO.
When selected the ISO file, some seconds later the message appears.
I removed Etcher and us other tools.
For me, now ir has worked on a windows PC with the firewall and virus detection switched off. On the mac it still failed, without firewall and virus scanner. But since the mac is now on linux, I cannot try this any furyher
OMG, I ran into the same issue tonight, and thank goodness I stumbled onto the solution somewhere else in this forum: in Windows 10 run the Etcher app as administrator. It is not enough that you install the app in an admin account with Windows. You still have to elevate the process when you launch it.
If you’re not familiar with what I’m referring to, right click on the Etcher icon, and select “run as administrator” menu item.
This to me was just another reason to hate Windows.
