Add better support for users who require Developer roles for short periods throughout the year

Currently a developper seat costs 50$/m, which is very high compared to other Developers services, especially for developers working casually on Balena.

In our team not all our developers works on Balena, but they still need access to Balena because sometime, maybe once or twice a year they will publish a new release to fix something, or they may have to investigate an issue using SSH on a weekend or because the “main balena dev” is on vacation. Having to pay 50$/m for such users is VERY expensive.

Compared to services they use every day like Github which costs 4$/m, or the ENTIRE IntelliJ suite (10+ IDEs) which costs 36$/m, paying 49$/m for a service they may use maybe 2 hours per month really isn’t worth it.

The only solution we could have today would be:

  • Paying a LOT of money for nothing
  • Using a shared account for those users

Matt: Hello, thank you for posting on the roadmap. Just a heads-up that I have updated the post a tad and given it a new title so that it is more constructive and enables a flow of feedback and discussion so that we can consider all usecases, issues, and possible solutions.
