Startup error: "Self signed certificate in sertificate chain"

I see this error message every time I start Etcher:

self signed certificate in certificate chain
    Error: self signed certificate in certificate chain at TLSSocket.<anonymous> (_tls_wrap.js:1088:38) at emitNone (events.js:86:13) at TLSSocket.emit (events.js: 188:7) at TLSSocket._finishlnit (_tls_wrap.js:610:8) at TLSWrap.ssl.onhandshakedone (_tls_wrap.js:440:38)

Hi, are you behind a proxy by any chance? It looks like you might be, and the proxy might inject itself into the network communication.

Yes, I use proxy autoconfig URL but switching it off doesn’t help.
But when I added Etcher to Kaspersky Internet Security white list, the problem disappered.

Glad to hear that it is solved for now. We still keep looking into this, what exactly was going on. We know of a few cases, when anti-virus software erroneously marked Etcher as a threat, and had to file for a correction with the vendor, if I recall correctly.
Thanks for the report! Hope Etcher will serve your burning needs well!
