There is now an Orange Pi Zero 2, with a number of upgrades, namely the wifi chip and at the same price as the existing board. This is a great platform for using Balena and wanted to log a request/demonstrate demand for Balena OS on this platform.
Hi @maggie0002,
Thanks for the heads up about the Orange Pi Zero 2. I’ve shared your request with our device team, and hopefully we’ll be able to get our hands on some of these.
Best regards,
John
For those also looking to OPi Zero 2, some interesting benchmarks here. According to this test, it beats the RPi 4 and is half the price:
Are there any news? Can we use any existing image for Zero 2?
Hey everyone, there is now a production image v2.87.16 for Pi Zero 2 W available! Give it a try and let us know what you think!
That will work for the Orange Pi Zero? Wi-Fi drivers and all?
I am sorry @maggie0002 - I am fairly sure that was a mix-up. The Orange Pi Zero 2 is a completely different platform. So - no, this will not work I guess @klutchell ?
Sorry @maggie0002, I misread the thread, this image is only for the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. Let me check with our devices team again.
I’ve created this new GH issue for tracking as the original one was stale and on a generic repo.
As we get more requests for this device type the feature will receive more weight, and move higher in the priority list.
There is another linked topic here too: Orange Pi devices official support request
is there an update for OPI Zero 2 support?
Adding here a repo where someone is working on a support package for OPI Zero 2: GitHub - katyo/meta-sunxi64: Yocto/OpenEmbedded layer for some Allwinner ARM64 SoCs and boards
I think there are still a number of barriers to a balena OS version but wanted to keep all the information in one place.
