Service keeps restarting

Hi,

I just pushed an update into the resin git repo for an app and now the device is continually starting and stopping the Main service.

Has anybody got any ideas what’s going on?

Hi @ajlennon - it’s been a while, are you still seeing this? There’s a few known issues that can cause this kind of behavior, most notably if you have an invalid environment variable value (e.g. if a variable name starts with a whitespace). If you don’t have any suspicious env vars, what OS version are you seeing this on? Could you share the device’s uuid and grant support access?

Hi! I’ve had the environment variable issue and keep an eye on that so that’s not it. It hasn’t happened again (but I’ve been working on other things - you know how it is!) If and when it rears it’s head again I’ll get in touch and grant support access. Thanks!

Got an interesting problem here which may be the same thing or something different. Keeps failing to download a layer

Hi, I have tried to take a look at the device.
To me it does not really look very similar to what you experienced initially.
I see the device coming offline on a regular basis. I have tried to log in but the device hardly stays online long enough to issue a simple command and console input is delayed. So it does look like an unstable network connection to me. That would also explain the failing image downloads.
Do you have other devices in the same network that are working ?

Morning - I have tried to access the device to get some baseline info from it and I am having issues with it being really slow/unresponsive to SSH connections.

Is this device hooked up over a wired connection, as it seems to have an unreliable network connection? This could be the source of the issues with the download of service updates.

Hi @richbayliss - thanks for taking a look.

It does seem a bit sluggish but has for some time. I’m in the office now and can look at things from this end.

The logging seems pretty clear it’s getting a #404 though and that’s due to a missing file on the server? I left it running overnight and it still seems to be in that loop…

Hi guys - yes it does look like it was a network connectivity issue here. Odd that I was seeing the #404 error logged but it does seem to have come down ok and updated now. Looks like a red-herring. Thanks for taking a look!
