Did you guys from balena noticed the google project distroless?
The main goal is to eliminate the OS in the containers to the bare minimum the application needs to run. This greatly sizes down image size and reduces attach surface.
Problem is the lack of base image for other than x86 devices.
Do you have anything regarding distroless in your pipeline?
Hi @arschlegel, thank you for bringing to that distroless initiative to our attention. It’s the first time I hear about this Google initiative. I shared it with my product team and learned that we don’t have current plans to integrate it into balenalib base images.
I raised a feature request on your behalf in our internal system. We’ll ping you as we have further discussion about the topic and take any decision here.
