What functionality is lost when VPN is off

When VPN is turned off what functionality is lost besides obviously inability to SSH into the device?
What if client is concerned about remote access or blocking OpenVPN traffic?

Also what version of openVPN currently is used?

Hi @vladsfl, here are some resources from our documentation:

  • Turning off VPN Side-effect/Warning: “Turning off the VPN means that any application or environment variable update is reflected only when the device polls for these changes. The Web Terminal does not function when the VPN is disabled. This also disables the public URLs functionality.”
  • You can read more info on runtime management and VPN here

The changelog shows OpenVPN v2.4.7 (meta-balena/CHANGELOG.md at master · balena-os/meta-balena · GitHub)
