RPI Image saved to local does not work

Hi,

I have a RPI Zero Image on the micro sd card that runs fine on the RPI Zero. When I take that micro sd card and save that image from micro sd to local Windows drive. I then Write the image to a new micro sd card, it will not boot up on the RPI Zero.

If I use the Balena Clone tool, from source to new card, it boots up fine on the RPI Zero.

How can I save to back up a working image on my local Windows drive to be able to later Write to a new card that will boot on the RPI Zero?

Thank you.

How are you saving the image from the SD to local disk? I’d guess that the boot configuration of the SD is getting lost in whatever process you’re using.

It has been awhile. There is a Read image from the sd card function on the Balena app and after that is done, save to local drive.

Thanks

What are the corrects steps to do this through Balena?

Do you mean Etcher?

Sorry for the mix up. It might be etcher. Can Balena read sd card image and save to local drive?

What would be the correct way to do this? To have a fully working backup image saved on to Windows drive to later write to sd card.

Etcher doesn’t make images of SD cards; for that something like Win32 Disk Imager might work. Of course, the best would be to save the original image file you used to flash the SD card if available. Is this SD card using balenaOS or something else?

It’s RPI Zero image. Since it did not work and I don’t recall which, I used Balena to clone SD’s from the original card.
